Education
Brenten M. Weeks serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Lucy Garrett Beckham High School (Mt. Pleasant, SC), Adjunct Professor of Music and Conductor of the College of Charleston Gospel Choir (Charleston, SC), and the Co-Worship & Arts Leader at the Life Center Church (North Charleston, SC). His responsibilities include conducting the College of Charleston gospel choir, conducting the Lucy Garrett Beckham advance chorale and concert choir, teaching an introduction to class piano and introduction to guitar class, Director of Colorguard for the Lucy Beckham Bengals Marching Band, directing and singing on the Life Center Church choir/praise and worship team.
A former military dependent born in Manhattan, Kansas now residing in Charleston, SC; Mr. Weeks earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music with emphasis in Music History, and his Master of Arts in Teaching with emphasis in Choral Performing Arts Education from the College of Charleston located in Charleston, South Carolina. Before completing his Master’s degree; Mr. Weeks spent the prior 8 years as a former Hospitality and Tourism Food and Beverage General Manager, managing various local and international restaurant chains throughout the local southeastern region.
Mr. Weeks is an active educator, performer, conductor and clinician throughout the city, state and southern region working with diverse choirs ranging from concert choirs to gospel choirs. He is an active Tenor of the Dove Award Winning and Grammy Award Nominated Gospel Choir: Ricky Dillard and New “G”eneration. As a conductor, Mr. Weeks has collaborated with Grammy Award Winner CeCe Winans, Grammy Award Winner Chandler Moore from Maverick City Music, Stellar Award Nominee Gene Hoskins, and has appeared with his college gospel choir on NBC Today’s Kathie Lee and Hoda show, The Colbert Report starring Stephen Colbert, and David Tutera’s My Great Big Live Wedding.
Mr. Weeks’ goal is to instill a sense of music appreciation, while at the same time educating students about the technical aspects of music, furthermore, how music is interdisciplinary and cross-curricular. In an attempt to expand students' interest; Mr. Weeks organizes field trips, integrates multicultural lessons, and incorporates a wide range of activities, manipulatives, and cooperative learning projects, introduces new concepts, fosters a fun learning environment, and helps students blossom into well rounded individuals.
Mr. Weeks’ professional affiliations include: Call Me MiSTER, National Educators Association, South Carolina Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Educators, South Carolina Music Educators Association, National Collegiate Gospel Choir Union and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
